Between February and October nearly 30,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians have lost their homes.

We have decided to support Libyan refugees that have fled to shelters in Tunisia by writing them letters of support. Although letters can’t rebuild homes, they can let innocent men, women, and children know that the world is sympathetic to their struggle. We believe this community service event is in line with our mission to promote Peace Through Understanding.

Keep in mind that Libya has an 88% literacy rate (highest in north Africa) and according to The CIA World Factbook, English is a language that is widely understood among Libyans.

People to People’s Kennesaw State University Chapter would like to request that you join us in writing a short letter of support for Libyan refugees.

Below are the guidelines for the letters:

- Maximum one page letter
- Can be typed or handwritten (obviously keep it legible)
- Cannot take a political stance on the conflict
- Do not use glue, tape, staples, cardboard, glitter or otherwise attach anything to the paper
- Feel free to personalize your letter (ex. including a pictures, using a postcard, etc)

The letters don’t need to be stamped as we will be sending them in a bulk package. The letters can be sent to

P.O. Box 500997
Atlanta, Georgia 31150

The deadline for the letters is Wednesday, November 30th, but please try to complete them as soon as possible – it requires just a few minutes of your time!

We ask that all the members of the Atlanta community participate in this and encourage their family, friends, and professional contacts to take part in this effort!

The PTPI-Atlanta Chapter supported the Young Soliders Program for Israel at a recent dinner in Downtown Atlanta. PTPI-Atlanta Chapter members attended the event.

The Young Soldiers Program is designed to help high school students from economically distressed backgrounds who are studying in institutions affiliated with the Israeli military cover their tuition fees. These special schools, such as the Akko Naval Academy, are among the best in the Israeli education system offering a variety of academic programs in engineering, computer science, and industrial management. Students enjoy an exciting social and cultural life and the opportunity to create a foundation for their future pursuits in the army and beyond.

These leaders worked with the Operation Iraqi Children warehouse in North Kansas City, Mo. This humanitarian activity was part of the optional activities for the People to People Americas Regional Conference. Operation Iraqi Children (OIC) is a grassroots program founded in early 2004 by actor Gary Sinise and author Laura Hillenbrand. The volunteers, led by Mary Eisenhower, People to People International president and chief executive officer (and granddaughter of U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower), put together 800 boxes, each containing eight school kits, during just two hours of work. Park’s PTPI chapter members are planning a second visit to the Operation Iraqi Children warehouse to put together more school kits for Iraqi children. Students anticipate the event becoming a Park University tradition with once a month visits to the warehouse.

Sinise and Hillenbrand created OIC to give concerned Americans a way to reach out to war-stricken Iraqi children and support American troops in their efforts. Since its inception, OIC has delivered more than 200,000 school supply kits to Iraq, along with more than 500,000 toys and thousands of Arabic-language books, shoes, blankets, backpacks and sports equipment, all of which have been distributed to Iraqi children by American troops.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials joined Mary Eisenhower, president and CEO of People to People International (PTPI) and granddaughter of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, today in unveiling the Global Youth Murals exhibition. The exhibit on Concourse E is a partnership among Hartsfield-Jackson’s Airport Art Program, PTPI and the Colorful Arts Society (CAS).

“The Global Youth Murals exhibition is an exciting chance for the Airport Art Program to share the work of children from all over the world,” said Katherine Marbury, Airport Art Program manager. “It is a wonderful companion to our Youth Art Galleries, and we hope passengers find both the artwork and the message behind it meaningful as they go about their holiday travel.”

The Global Youth Murals exhibit, which consists of 15 murals created by students in 13 countries, was organized by PTPI’s Atlanta Chapter and the CAS. It is designed to expand awareness of People to People International and to enable people to enjoy artwork by young people from places such as Bulgaria, Denmark, Malta, Pakistan and Ukraine.

“I cannot think of a more perfect place for these beautiful murals to be displayed,” Eisenhower said. “It is a remarkable opportunity to increase exposure to these expressions of peace and community.”
